Bon Appetit!

I'm loving my raw eating trial (well semi raw) I can't get my head around not cooking certain vegies, for instance raw Eggplant..blech... Despite this my phase is taking me to new culinary heights. Making Zucchini fetucini with mushrooms and marinara sauce, all sorts of yummy salads, and my favourite 'cauli-cous' which is cauliflower ground to the same consistancy as cous cous and spiced up with anything you want. The possibilities are endless. It's such a creative endeavour. Now all I have to do is get my hands on a dehydrator and I'll be unstoppable!!! muhuhahaha! My brother would not approve. He's already gob smacked at the mere thought of my vegetarianism! this would send him over the edge.

Here's a gem for the raw newbies who don't wanna jump in the deep end immediately. A little tasty treat I've been whipping up post gym workout recently. It's very refressing and surprisingly silky. For a nice cool down on a hot summers day, chuck:

  • 1/4 Canteloupe

  • 2 thick slices of watermelon (Skin removed)

  • As many Mint leaves as your little heart desires

  • Ice-a-plenty

  • A dash of peppermint essence

  • 1 tsp of raw Cocoa powder (Optional is you feel like minty-choc goodness)

In a blender and whip until smooth and silky and yummy. Mmmmmm Drink up and get vital babies!

Spray Me!

I went to the annual Australia Day street party in my boyfriend's cul de sac last night. It's a great idea, nice weather permitting, where the whole street comes out on their front lawns and sets up an makeshift outside living room, complete with couches and everyone has a giant BBQ whilst watching two feature movies. One kids viewing at around 7pm then an adult/older kiddies session at about 9pm. Movies on offer last night were Ratatouille & Hairspray!. Boy and myself were both feeling a little antisocial at first and lethargic from our respective first weeks back at work/study so opted out of the kids movie and stayed inside at his watching Arrested Development until dark then snuck out to catch Hairspray!. I must say The movie was a little cheesy and obvious and overall a little too sickly sweet, American as apple pie for my taste. However in saying that what I did take a away from it was a sense of confidence that I am OK within my own skin (a thought that rarely passes through my self conscious mind). The mere fact that the little fat girl with big hopes, huge talent and heart to match actually gets the boy and the glory in the end was very satisfying for this former fatty boomstix. If you are a little self conscious about something I recommend seeing it highly. It covers all sorts of prejudice and most notably, people's current preoccupation with weight and size. If I had seen that when I was around 12 it would have probably installed some much needed confidence in me that didn't come until later on in life. So here's to you Tracy Turnbladd! And here's a little thought from me:

Never stop doing what makes YOU feel alive. You're only going to make yourself miserable if you don't, but you'll make countless others happy and inspired when you do!

Raawwwwwwrrr!

I've been really interested in Raw food diets recently. A couple of years ago I attempted doing the Dr Gillian McKeith 'You are what you eat' diet and found it to be very uplifting and invigorating. I felt light and airy, like I was walking on clouds constantly. Like I'd literally flushed my system. Unfortunately, due to study it went out the window and only lasted a little while and I reverted to a less strict vegetarian diet that I'm still on to this day. I might add at this point I am in fact a vegetarian :-P Going on 4 years now. I love it but I still don't think that I'm getting enough freshness out of my diet. I'm very health conscious and I watch my weight vigorously (I have to keep my girlish figure!). I have a a MAJOR sweet tooth and drink a fair bit of diet cordial and use artificial sweeteners to curb it. I get slightly woozy sometimes so I don't know if it's this or that I should be eating more varied protein for 'Energy' as I end up relying too heavily on Eggs and Dairy for protein sources.

I want to look into RAW a little more and find out just how raw foodists exist solely on plant based diets with no caffeine or unnatural stimulants without falling down. I found some fantastic video's about the subject though I'm yet to discover just how Raw foodies manage to have a social life and still hang around and coexist with 'Non-Raw' eaters and *GASP* even more astonishing, 'Carnivores'.

All in all I love the idea of eating what earth has provided for our consumption. It's so lovely and wholesome.

P.S If you still are eating meat please watch Part 1 of 'Earthlings' below. A documentary narrated by Joaquin Pheonix. It demonstrates exactly how Mr. Chicken, Mrs. Cow and Master Piggy get from the land to your dinner plate. SCARY STUFF! :-S
